Each individual exists in the boundless universe, like a satellite moving in their own orbit. As a small part of the universe, they inherit time, distance, and the imagination of the future.
The light that generates distance, subtle yet perceptible changes, resembles distant celestial bodies, solitary yet definite.
Like all machines and systems, this series involves the composite of various materials, while simultaneously shedding the inherent tool-like attributes of mechanical devices. Sintered aluminum alloy, condensed optical lenses, soft nylon, and cool printed circuit boards - the rationality intertwined throughout, layer by layer. We use the language of technology to praise rigorous actions, great courage, and imagination.
The Satellite series consists of different-sized lighting unit modules that can be connected via magnetic suction lines. This allows for expansion according to different scales and spaces to suit various scenarios, with a more free combination method.
BIAS is an independent lighting brand of Uncertain Lab(A Chinese design studio), co-founded by architect Xie Jinfan and mechanical designer Zhang Jiran. BIAS means deviation, which is a numerical value in statistics to describe the difference between estimated value and reality, so as to express a way of change caused by deviation. In design, programming and optoelectronic technology are used to change the stable attributes of light source, and time is introduced as a new medium into the design category of lamps. It is tried to break through the limitation of design in the time dimension, so as to create flowing time that can be focused in space. The brand is willing to provide a new perspective for life, to accept fleeting and continuous changes, to be close to and cherish similar relationships, such as involuntary smiles, kisses and hugs. lt is hoped that light will be used as a medium to create soft space-time.
